Anish Kapoor London, Paris and Atlanta....

Untitled
If you have been to The High Museum in Atlanta, GA then you definitely have seen Anish Kapoor's untitled piece. It's very popular with adults and children alike. It's an enormous satellite type of dish filled with perfect pieces of mirror. Designed by a computer this piece of art has many features. When you approach it you see tiny little mirrors placed together perfectly. They make you feel confused and you appear shattered.  Tied to the act of looking, suggestive of vanity and voyeurism, and charged with its surreal purpose – to represent a no-space, an illusion – the looking glass is loaded with symbolism. Yes, I copied and pasted that sentence !  Also, when you lean into the sculpture you can hear the conversations being held behind you ...even when someone is whispering. Also, when speaking into it you can hear them clearly as well. Yes, many a time have I stood into it and listened to conversations happening behind me. I mean who wouldn't ??  The curator of  Contemporary Art removed the rope and stepped inside to show us how it works...because HE can.

When you look at other pieces done by Kapoor you see your reflection in many of them.

He even had a large satellite dish The Rock in New York City.

In fact MANY of his pieces are enormous. this piece was created for the 2012 Olympic Games in London. How sad was I to miss this ! I have to go back and check it out. here is a LINK to learn all about it. It looks like a torch and it looks like a roller coaster and it looks like DNA.  I love how enormous is it and this picture is actually a work of art itself. I love the blue sky, the sun and clouds.
"Leviathan" by Anish Kapoor

This piece is actually my favorite and yet in some ways I hate it too. Reasons I love it because it looks so space age. I love the color and I the shape. It's something right out of a sci fi movie.

Hal ? Are you in there ?
When walking into it I am wondering if anyone is thinking of a 2001: A Space Odyssey ? Okay reason why I hate it. Okay, I don't "hate" it, I just feel like it's too tech to be in the The Grand Palais museum. This piece was only temporary, but it doesn't belong . How did it get in there ? The whole thing is made of rubber ! It's a giant balloon or a giant bouncing ball ! Again, since I am not paid to write a blog I will attach a LINK to more information about this piece and about Anish Kapoor. If you don't know who he is...you should !
