Howard Finster at the High

Before I started my docent candidate training , I learned about Howard Finster. He is a distant relative of a friend of mine and when touring with him he was the first to take me into his section . Finster is a self taught artist from Georgia. He was minster, a bicycle repair man and a very FUN artist. I say fun because his art is bright and fun and cheerful. He took ordinary objects and made them into art. He uses various famous people in his art including George Washington, Elvis Presley and Abraham Lincoln. He paints them in bright colors and paints religious scripture on them.  He says that he was inspired by God.

He has a lot of work at The High including a painted bicycle . When gave up repairing bikes he took his tools and laid them in the cement below.

My favorite art by Finster ? Oh, I think I just like everything he does. He has a crazy home about an hour from here that I plan on going to called Paradise Garden..I am assuming just as bright and crazy and fun as his art.
