Norfolk, Suffolk, really does it make a difference?

I think I need more hair ....

After losing my balance with a vacuum and tumbling down the stairs....I decided I had it...I am going to Norfolk, Virginia and meeting up with my friend. How did I get there ? Did I fly? ...no....Train? no...I drove by my lonesome self for 10 hours.

This is the Hotel, and really it looks nothing like this....
When selecting a hotel, do not base it on the pictures.....

I stayed at a hotel alone for the first time...and did tourist things alone. I really needed it. I needed to get out of my house and do something brave. You are thinking...what is brave about that ? Well its been many years since I have gone and done something like that. Also, I have never driven that far alone. The drive was uneventful, and although I stayed in my hotel in fear the first day, the second day I went out and saw a few things.

First it was recommended that I drive out to Virginia Beach. Okay, obviously this person had no idea what they were talking about.
It was freezing cold, everything looked closed, but it looks like a fun place to take my kids in the summer.
Yes, look at all the people...this place was booming !!

end of the Boardwalk....

My kids would DIG this in the summer

It's weird walking down a boardwalk....nobody is there but homeless people and other people thinking the same thing I am thinking ....why am I here?
There were lots of people there....lots and lots of really old people...

Second after talking to a local shop owner...who happened to have the most white trash t-shirts I have EVER seen....next to the "Johnson" series...recommended Colonial Williamsburg.
I have no idea what these houses were, many of them were not labeled. You pay to learn their history.

I had heard of it, but you know..never knew the history of it. I arrived in my car and walked to the information desk. You know what ? They were not really that helpful. I was explaining to them that "this is all new to me, I have no idea what I am doing".
It reminds me of  Mount Vernon...

I don't know maybe it was my California accent, but she didn't get it. She just told me to go to the bus and walk around. I did and apparently Williamsburg takes 2 days to see. The twins would hate it...rah rah on the other hand might dig it...might not.

Okay, so overall the experience was a good one. If I had planned my time wisely it would have been better. Driving on country roads to Norfolk was really cool and wished that I had time to spend there. I need to drive alone to the Florida Keys are something along those lines :)
