They paid for that bridge on the top right for a second entrance to the church... |
I have not finished visiting our lovely neighborhood church at North Minster, but was invited to North Point Church in Alpharetta, GA. It is a non denominational church, and quite the experience. By no means do I mean this in a bad way. I had a nice time, it's just so different than the Mormon church. In the first place they have a HUGE parking lot. If you were to look on Google Earth at this church you will see that they have a HUGE property. The parking lot is enormous. They have polls with letters that section of the different areas to park. It sorta reminded me of an amusement park. There are even 6 little shuttle buses that drive around taking people to the church.
I passed the book store and met my friend in the main entry way. We sat down in reserved seats. Everyone that comes for the first time gets to sit in the reserved seats. I sat down and was given a small schedule of the church and a DVD which I will have to check out this week. There was a man who came out and talked briefly and then introduced the band. This was as everyone had told me a rock concert. There was spotlights with smoke coming out of them.
Now that I'm here Now that you're near in Xanadu |
They had the Xanadu like stage and several musicians. It was really loud. I think if I had brought ear plugs it would have been a bit better. The music was good and it brought a good message. It's just different experience to being raised in a church that does not allow any of the instruments being used at North Point into their chapel.
A small video was played and then the pastor Andy spoke. He was really cool. I kind felt like that North Point was about self help and Jesus rolled up into one. I thought...I would have never heard this at the Mormon Church. At least on in the manner that this man was expressing himself. It was interesting, funny, down to earth, and spiritual. Jesus did not seem to be 4000 years old, but just there and now. He did mention scripture, but not constantly. He talked about putting your spouse, you children and then your career in your life in that order. If you put your career first, your marriage and the relationship with your children will fail. He asked why people don't practice this, and his reply was that people have fear to put their career in the hands of God and let him help you with it.
The best part about North Point was that they say it's for people who don't like church. I could totally see that....

I'll be back, but I still have committed myself to two more Sunday's at North Minster....
