Repeating Gretchie History

Today, I ventured to James Madison's Montpelier. It was not as impressive as Monticello. When you walk into the greeting room, it is almost identical to Thomas Jeffersons. The paintings were the same and if Montpelier could obtain the original furniture, I am sure that it would be a close twin to Jefferson's. They were great friends and I suppose that it was a form of flattery. I think that if I could do that again, I would see Montpelier first and THEN Monticello. I also would not do what I did today. I went to Montpelier and then Colonial Williamsburg.

I arrived at 4:15 in Williamsburg and the visitors center closes at 5. So, really we only had a good hour to see everything. Williamsburg is a two day adventure. I suppose you could spend a whole week there if you had the time. The first time I went I had two hours it was cold and windy. Today, it was colder and windy and my kids were insane. They are too young to appreciate this acurate restoration of Williamsburg. I wonder what it's like to live there because people do live there. There are homes that are not open to the public. There is also my "alma-mater" William & Mary.

My Facebook page says that I went there. Sure I have been there , but have I participated in their education program ? I have not. Anyway,  dragged my kids into the bookstore/coffee shop and purchased another t-shirt and beany. Do my kids know what William and Mary is or was ? Do they know who King William of Orange and his Queen Mary..creepily 1st cousins ?
They ignored what was around them until there was a sweet parade.

I am back at the hotel and watching reruns of Lost. Not looking forward the long 10 hour drive back to Georgia. I can't even eat Hostess Cupcakes and Diet Coke on the way back. I can't eat Mother's Cookies either. Perhaps, soft vanilla cones in a snowstorm can give me some comfort.

Momma mia: Alikona and I both made Ham, Funeral Potatoes and a green salad for Christmas dinner. Hmm...is that just a family tradition or what ?
