Look if I had a farm or even a piece of property that gets light...I would have garden boxes in my backyard. If I had a ton of money I would have organic food delivered to my home once a week. I would shop at "Whole Foods" ( whole paycheck). I have watched all the movies about eating processed food, how chickens and pigs are slaughtered. I am aware about seed and how people have ruined our seeds. How everything is made of corn and soy. I must say though to get away from processed food and only eat organic is pretty hard here. Europe...Germany..I have never eaten so well in my life. When you buy veggies..they are all organic. I lived with a family that did not eat processed food. What do most Americans feed their kids : Processed Food. I myself have packed my kids lunches knowing that there was nothing organic in it. That my ancestors would not recognize anything in there. Shame on me ? Oh no no no....sorry but I find few people that can escape the evils of processed.

So, Michael can you help me ? Can you help me ween my kiddies of processed food ? Can you ween me off processed food and cancer in a can ? Maybe when I get to Georgia I can start gardening. It is what I really miss about owning a home with a backyard. I loved my home in Salida. It was so hot there, but there were times when I would go in my backyard and spend hours back there decorating the landscape. Then of course when it was almost finished....we had to move. Gardening reminds me of my grandfather. He had the largest garden when I was little. I am sure if I saw it today it would not be that large. He would grow everything back there. I remember the smell of the dirt and the taste of the peas and corn. I remember rubarb and carrots. I am sure he would not know what to do with the different forms of yogurt that are processed and packaged these days. He would be amazed at my supermarket...grapes and strawberries year round ? My kids see nothing wrong with that....

You can't do it all at once. Just make small changes. Pick one thing.
We got a CSA subscription with an organic farm down in Atwater. We pick up our box once a week and then plan meals around what's in the box. We also get our ground beef from them. Since doing that, we eat a lot less ground beef. It's expensive. But eating less ground beef is a good thing, right?
I've started buying organic chicken breasts from Trader Joe's. Also expensive. Instead of each person getting their own breast, I'll make a stir fry with a lot more veggies and one breast cut thinly to spread it out more. Or a casserole, or something like that. We're eating more veggies and less meat.
We have a long way to go, but like I said, one step at a time.
