So, where do I start ?
#1 The nurse calls from the doctors office and tells me that my appointment in delayed until 12:45. I am delighted because the traffic is out of control and and the middle of the afternoon is better than earlier in the morning.
#2 I go coupon shopping with Amy. I save some money, but nothing fantastic.
#3 I place the frozen groceries in my new little freezer which I am oddly proud of .
#4 I leave at about 12:15 to the appointment
#5 I realize at about 12:30 that I am not going to make it on time. In addition to this it starts snowing. So I continue to drive to my appointment and made arrangements with my neighbor also named Amy that she pick my my kids from the bus stop.
#6 I call the doctors office and tell them that I going to be late and they are totally down with that.
#7 I arrive about 30 minutes late and am feeling horrible because I have this feeling I need to be home.
#8 I am at the doctors until 2:15 and while I am there my partner in crime informs me that the school district has called. The children are all excused at 1:45 and thus beginneth the chaos.
#9 I am delighted that its snowing. I am texting friends pictures of the snow. Its a lot of traffic, but I am convinced we will be home within two hours. Time goes on, snow falls, it gets cold, the ground turns to ice and I begin to freak out.
#10 A 20 minute car ride becomes 10 hours. I am stuck in the middle of a huge traffic jam from hell. You know those movies where people are trying to escape NYC because the aliens are coming to destroy it. It was just like that...but no Aliens...it was snow. Atlantans are not prepared when it comes to snow. They don't own snow tires nor do they own chains. I am in a sweatshirt and skinny jeans. I am wearing tennis socks and running shoes.
#11 I begin to pray. Every time I pray I we move. So after 8 hours or so we make it off a freeway. We see crazy things. We see people do crazy things with their cars. We see tires spinning and skidding. I see a car almost fall into a huge ditch. I see insanity and I wanted to cry.
#12 I am told that we can not travel down 4 roads that lead to my home. So, instead I reach out to my boss and she lets me stay at her house.
#13 I am sad and frustrated. I couldn't sleep because I wasn't home in bed with my kids. I have been separated from my kids many many nights, but this was different. My phone had been at 1% for hours and was not able to call friends and family. Why bother calling friends when they have their own stories ???
#14 I make it home around noon and take a shower. My children are returned to me and I am crying.
#15 Thousands of people were in accidents. Thousands of people left their cars in the street...in the middle of the freeway...in the middle of an exit. Thousands of people were stranded in their cars. I am grateful and feel blessed and today and tomorrow will be insane. My kids have two snow days.
#16 Driving home I took some photos . They will NEVER do justice. The cars being shown are abandon cars and there were about 7 buses on the roads we traveled.
#17 Drinking grape juice and eating fresh oatmeal chocolate chip cookies. Tomorrow is a snow day and I am glad to be home with my kiddies and pups.

Oh my goodness, I've tried to read about your insane experience on news sites, but your words paint the real picture. My you were blessed. You are loved and your family too. On a lighter note, I love that even in tragedy you see things that make us laugh like the aliens. Again, soo glad you are all ok. xo!
Wow! So glad you are all safe! We got stuck on Donner Pass once for 7 hours. We left Squaw with chains on and the roads were clear. Then the storm hit and everyone went everywhich way and we were stuck anyway!
Scary!
