Don't you hate name droppers ?
I have a friend Kim on Facebook. We lived out in the central valley many years ago. We attended a "Your Best Life" tour with Oprah. When we arrived we were asked as a group to meet Oprah. It was a publicity stunt. So, of course who would not want to meet Oprah ? It was freezing cold and we got into rows to meet her. I got into the front row. I stood next to a small older lady with a quilted vest on. So, Oprah comes out and we are supposed to yell and scream. So there I was feeling stupid yelling and screaming and clapping at Oprah. Oprah walks up to every third person in line and shakes their hand. She walks up to the lady with the quilted vest and tells her how much she likes it. So, there Oprah is standing right in front of me and dissing me ! Oh I was feeling stupid because I am supposed to be all excited to see her and she was blowing me off. So, I instead touched her arm. Has this made me a better person ? It just made me hate Oprah even more...I see Kim's posts on FB daily and I have to somehow have to remove Oprah from my mind.....
Inspiration ? Book Club the other night and talking about famous people we had met. I haven't really met anyone famous. Shall we list them .. actors on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Faith Hill, James Woods, and danced at a Duran Duran concert with Jimmy Fallon standing next to me. I ignored him, but encouraged my friend at the time to flirt with him. We said to his friend " That guy looks like Jimmy Fallon". In which he said " That is because it is Jimmy Fallon". When you see him in public or at a Duran Duran concert, may I suggest not talking to his friend...because apparently..they're all dicks. I saw these people in Las Vegas.
Sarah Vowel, I attended a lecture and asked her question. I yelled at Arnold Schwarzenegger and told him it was not good to smoke a cigar while being pregnant. Brian Boitano ( I thought he was someone I had made out with at a dance club and then I was told he was the Olympic Gold Medalist) So, what do I say to him ? " You're the dude, that one that gold medal huh?" I asked Huey Lewis for his autograph at a baseball game, for the life of me I could not think of a song he had ever sung. I personally know Marshall Brain, however I have known his since birth so it's not a big whoop.
I kissed Steve Masters at a New Order/Echo and the Bunnyman concert. I said "Hey John" to John Taylor of Duran Duran. I attended an recording of Politically Incorrect with John Taylor; Mimi Kennedy; Alan Keyes; Victoria Jackson. Some guy from E! at Disneyland.
Oh and let us not forget Murray from the Wiggles. Sarah drew him a picture and I stepped on it :( So, we couldn't give it to him.
Everybody knows somebody. I am sure all these people are great people. I am just happy to have the friends and family that I do have. Meeting, seeing, or talking to those people I guess were a unique opportunity, but the relationships that I have mean more to me.
Seriously, Oprah showed up at my front door...I would slam the door in her face. Bring it on Oprah !
