Kettlebell Shmettle Bell

The Golden Egg

Last night I was trained by Brad  and then later attended a class on kettlebells. I thought it was for a good cause and that since I had used kettlebells in the past that it would be fine. First of all my workout with Brad was great. They are all great trainers at the gym, but I like to give Brad the worst time. He pretty much ignored me for the first month I was there. So, I am pretty much never EVER going to let him live it down. So, after Brad it was this kettlebell class. The first bad sign was that Joe told is to get a towel. I had already been through two towels ! Second we all got in a circle and started doing warm ups. Cardio Warm Ups.  So, pretty much it was like going to a regular small group training session and then off to another work out. He explained the anatomy of a kettlebell and then went on to various lifting techniques. I pretty much felt like a loser. Nobody told me I was, nobody treated me like I was, just that I had bad form. I knew this before hand, and felt this class would be perfect for it. It just seemed like everyone was WAY FIT and knew exactly what they were doing ! Wow, imagine that me comparing myself to others ? I am sorry but what age does that "screw people, who cares what they think of you" era begin?

The end of the class he taught everyone "The Turkish Get Up". Watching a Turkish get up online, well the exercise looks easy. Yes, of course it looks easy....the people showing you are in awesome shape ! I on the other hand might be strong, but not that strong. I can dead lift the "Golden Egg" which is about 106 pounds, but Turkish get up is a whole different ball game. Anyway, I got up and left realizing that this move was too advanced for me. I messaged my trainer later and said " My body just told me to go to hell. Thank you for Kettlebell class. One day the Turkish Dead Lift is going to be my bitch".  "Be my bitch" is another way of saying " I will master it, and be in control of it". Yeah, but not with the golden egg !!  Okay, about the video. The young man is using a dumbbell, not a kettlebell. Also, he is barefoot. It is better to be barefoot or use a shoe like a minimalist shoe. You have better control over the kettlebell. Running shoes just make it feel like you are on a bed doing it. I at first thought it was gross that he was barefoot until last nights class.
