So, a few years Tom and I talked about moving. Not because we don't like our ward or where we live, but because despite all the changes we have made to attempt to make our home larger, we are starting to out grow our home. We can not afford to buy a larger home in the bay area. Despite how intelligent I feel Tom is...and how many raises and promotions he has recieved it is not working for us. We stay here we stay close to our friends, close to Tom's family, and we get the cool climate during the winter months. We move to Texas we get a hotter climate, but Tom will essentially be getting a raise twice as much as he is making now. We would have a larger home. We can afford to get Tom a car that is enviornmentally friendly, we can afford to fix our car, we could afford a lot of things. When something breaks we can afford to fix it. So, I am going online looking at the climate change in Texas. Will things get really bad really soon in Texas ? I am crazy concerned about Climate Change ? Should Tom and I just go for it ? Can we move there...save money and then return to California and buy in Danville ?
It's actually making me a little mental worrying about this...it is almost too good to be true. Yet, everyone else in America is living this way....but us. What about friends ? What about church ? What about education and schools ? I am told that we would get a better education in Texas. We could put Sarah through college ..I could continue my education at the University of Texas Austin. We could take real vacations, we could visit California and appreciate it. What to do ? My mother says go for it, my close friends say go for it. I am scared...I am totally scared....

It's all about change and you will be making a big CHANGE if you move. We moved up the street and it took us two years to adjust. As far as climate goes, are you going to be spending a lot of time outside? You won't be as hot as if you lived in Arizona and you will be in an air conditioned home with probably a pool. Good luck!
Do what is best for your family-- but visit first! It is one thing to hear about its terrible heat and humidity and another to live it!
I will miss you terribly...
xoxo
I say GO FOR IT! Change is hard, but it is good.
We went through all of the same questions and concerns. The Bay Area is beautiful. But it is expensive. Just like you... We never had any disposable income. We had to fix fix fix everything that broke. We had no way to move to a bigger house. We had no idea how to pay for a new car.
Moving was the best thing we ever did. People are nice here. There is no traffic. We can afford a vacation.
I've heard so many great things about Austin. I have a friend that moved there three years ago. Let me know if you want info from her. She LOVES it there.
I LIVE IN TEXAS! Hello, isn't that all you needed to know?? Would you be living in Austin? Because that is by far the coolest place to live in Texas. If I could live there I would. And then I would have a place to stay if I wanted to visit, right?? Personally, I love Texas, and I live in the worst part (according to everyone I've ever talked to). Not a fan of the ginormous Texas pride, but it's still a cool place to live. My car doesn't have a/c and I still survived :) (though I would NOT recommend it). If you're going to be making so much more money and have a bigger house and everything I'd say go for it. Good luck with your decision!
By the way, I was COLD yesterday. I was so mad, what happened to global warming?? It's September in Houston and I was COLD. This is not acceptable.
Just be glad it's not -20 below zero. I know this family that moved from DTown to MN. What were they thinking?
Texans really like living there. It doesn't sound like a bad place, provided you can abide the bigness of everything. I've heard that people who move from California never move back, though.
I'm sure you would enjoy the adventure, as much as you'd be missed. Blogs are marvelous for that reason.
You really should spend a week in July or August in Texas before you decide to move there. The humidity can be a killer. But east Texas is very green and pretty and it rarely snows. And the drivers are very polite. And there is a strong chance that we'd actually get out there to visit you, since we have lots of family down there.
